5 Steps To Strategically Focus & Be More Efficient
Every successful executive and entrepreneur knows what it’s like to burn through vats of midnight oil in the non-stop grind to profitability and the toll it takes on the body and mind. But by following a vital piece of advice from the late, great Steve Jobs, you can increase your profitability while reducing your workload and live the happy, balanced life you deserve.
We’ve all heard that the key to efficiency and success is to focus. A Japanese maxim even teaches that a “focused mind can pierce through stone.” But it’s easier said than done, right? It’s not always clear how to find that focus. That’s why we’ve found some practical steps to easily achieving game-changing focus (via Entrepreneur Magazine).
According to Steve Jobs, focusing isn’t deciding what to do, it’s deciding what not to do.
To achieve maximum efficiency, you want to invest your energy and time to the activities that are most important and have the highest impact. The key to this is by ignoring trivial tasks. So how exactly do you do that?
Here are 5 steps to tap the full power of your to-do list and work less hours while generating more profit:
1. Assign monetary value to each item on your list
Figure out how much each task is worth, then write it down next to the task. For example, if your task is to return the call of your number 1 client, and that client is responsible for $1 million of your annual sales, write “Call Johnny back ($1 million)” If the task is to submit a proposal worth $100,000, you would write “Finish and send proposal ($100,000)”.
2. Sort your tasks in order of descending value
The importance of your tasks should correspond directly with the dollar amount to which it’s attached, i.e. task #1 has the highest dollar value while the task with the lowest dollar value sits at the bottom of the list.
Draw a line to split the list in half, with the top half holding the most important tasks and the bottom half holding the least important.
3. Dedicate 4 days a week to the top half of the list
Focus on the #1 item and don’t move on to anything else until you finish it. Approach each task this way, with laser-like focus. Stick with a single task until it’s complete. The only exception is if the task cannot be completed without someone else taken action on it. In those cases, move on to the next item on your list.
4. Invest 1 day a week on bottom half of your list
Your less important tasks will often include things that seem urgent, but for this tactic to work, you must accept that you won’t get to everything on the bottom half. By working only one day a week on them, you deliberately cause some to roll over to the next week, and this is part of the process. It’s more important that the majority of your week is spent on the most financially valuable tasks. Some of your tasks will remain in the bottom half of your list, incomplete, for weeks a time, and this is okay.
5. Reevaluate worth of bottom half of list EVERY WEEK
Evaluating the bottom half of your list weekly will help you decide if a task should be moved up or stay where it is.
Tasks that become obsolete should be deleted immediately. We often write down tasks that aren’t all that important because we’re naturally averse to leaving things out. By using this method, you’ll be forced to procrastinate on some tasks and they’ll stay on your list week after week, which will help you realize how unimportant they are. If they were important, they’d be at the top of the list.
To find stone-piercing focus, you need to sacrifice good opportunities to spend time on great ones. After following this strategy for a long enough time, you’ll notice your bottom line getting bigger, which will give you the ability to hire people to whom you can delegate the bottom tasks on your list, perhaps even the bottom 75%, while you focus on the top 25, which will continue the cycle of earning you more money and freeing up more time.

Dress Right By Dressing Light
Choosing business attire for the summer, especially in a hot and humid region like Tampa, can be a tricky thing. Balancing a professional look while staying cool is crucial. You don't want to be suited up but visibly soaked in sweat all day, do you? Putting forth the effort to find ideal summer business clothes will pay off when you find yourself cool and comfortable despite the heat.
Here are some guidelines to summer business fashion.
Fabric Breathability
Being aware of the breathability of different fabrics is the most important step to finding the a great summer business wardrobe.
Stay away from: mohair and wool, because they're insulating and hot
Look for: breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, seersucker
Expert tip: Fabric make-up is only part of the equation for keeping cool. Look for weaves and weights that allow the cotton to transmit moisture and heat away from your body and into the environment.
Stay Light
Wear light colored clothing and select fabrics made with breathable weaves and natural fibers such as cotton, linen, Looser fits facilitate airflow, but do not take this to mean you should wear a full size larger than what your body size calls for. Remember that dark colors do not reflect light but instead absorb it and are hotter.
The Importance of an Undershirt
Always wear a 100% cotton undershirt beneath your cotton long-sleeve dress shirt, preferably a V-neck. Wearing two layers of clothing sounds warmer than wearing a single layer, but a cotton undershirt protects the outer layer from sweat and fabric-staining antiperspirants. If you're a heavy sweater, consider bringing an extra undershirt to change into.
Jacket Lining
The inner construction of a jacket plays a big role in retaining heat or reducing heat retention.
Unlined jackets: perfect for warm weather due to less layers of fabric, but less formal because they are unstructured and less regid.
Half-lined jackets: structure is retained in the linings and shoulder pads, but the lower half of the jacket does away with the lining. Choose one made with viscous Bemberg material instead of silk, because Bemberg does a better job of wicking away moisture. It's also more durable than silk.
Pants
The best dress pants for summer are those made of cotton or tropical wool (which is lighter and more breathable than regular wool).
Cotton is less expensive and more durable than tropical wool, but its stiffness makes it less flattering to a man's figure.
On the other hand, tropical wool resists wrinkling but is less breathable than cotton.
Footwear
Few "cooling" remedies exist in dressy footwear, so instead switch to more breathable socks or wear cooling inserts. Bring a change of socks to work so you can swap out sweaty, damp ones in the middle of the day.
